Inflammation is often treated as a musculoskeletal problem, but it is an immune response that shows up in the musculoskeletal system without originating there. This course explores what inflammation really is, why the acute inflammatory response is normal, and what happens when that pathway breaks down and becomes chronic. Day 1 looks at the immune system's role: innate and acquired immunity, TH1, TH2, TH17 and Treg problems, how to spot them in your clients, mast cell activation syndrome and the immunology of fibrosis in fascia and tissue. Day 2 covers autoimmunity (including low back pain), COVID-related pain and fatigue, stealth infections and the role of the nervous system in pain, inflammation and immunity. You will also learn how to use intake forms and ask clients the right questions, and you will work through case studies and live assessments as a group.
